MA in Theatre | Theatre and Community

The specialization in Theatre and Community is geared towards creators, researchers and professionals who are interested in the processes and methods of the Theatre as a privileged instrument of social and communal intervention and participation.

This second cycle programme intends to promote the artistic and cultural development of the social fabric, by means of creating qualified agents, contributing to the emergence of new job opportunities in this area.

With the goal of developing quality and efficient projects within this field, we’ve built networks towards social intervention thanks to an in-depth knowledge of the surrounding communities with which we have established bonds of cooperation and continuity.

Regarding these partnerships, we must highlight the synergy that has been maintained with Amadora City Hall (Division of Social and Educational Intervention), namely with the project Theatre of Identities.

This Master’s degree specialization in ESTC values the artistic dimension, as well as theatre pedagogics, by providing creative processes within diverse social agents, supplying a voice to the community.

The communities are simultaneously the goal and the necessary condition that aids the creative process, providing experiences of plurality and diversity in ethical, aesthetical, and poetic matters.

The programme maintains an in-depth reflection on contemporary artistic and civic ideas and  as a theoretical reference. The encouragement of individual journeys, allowing the students to develop several lines of action within the Theatre and Community, is a fundamental goal.
