Last Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the award-winning 'Encovered', winner of the Sophia Student Awards 2023, in the category of best fiction, made history by being the first Portuguese film to be semifinalist at the Oscar Student.
The film performed by Rodrigo Rebello de Andrade has been part of the Official Selection of the Short Village of the Earl 31st Edition, in the section "Take One!" as well as in the Sophia 2023 Awards. It was also the winner of the awards for Best Argument and Best Interpretation in the YMOTION -Young Famer Film Festival 2022.
Undercover, a film held in the 3rd year of Licentiatura at the Higher School of Theatre and Cinema, the oldest and most prestigious Portuguese film school, adds up to its 4th appointment, the latter being given by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, in the United States.
Protagonized by Rafael Morais and Pedro Lacerda, account still with João Pedro Mamede, Simon Frankel, Rafael Gomes and with the special participation of Manuel Mozos. The argument is from Pedro Joy and the production direction of Sofia Correia. Having been a final graduate work, the team counts on more than 28 students from ESTC.
It is already the 50th Edition of the Student Academy Awards, a prize that has given it to know big names of cinema such as Spike Lee, Robert Zemeckis, Patricia Riggen, Pete Docter, etc. In an edition in which it was beat the record for submissions, between 2444 films, 63 were chosen as semifinalists. 'Encovered' is on that list, putting it in the top 3% of all the films submitted. In the Narrative Film, category where the short film is included, 17 feature films from schools from around the world are in competition. Synopsis: Vargas, an undercover agent, has as a mission lead to capturing a group of assailants. After talking to Ricardo, a member of the gang, he begins to question the enemy's vision, making the mission much more difficult.
